Interesting. The way he sells his art is part of his practice. Auctions previously, now on-line. He loves to make money from a stupid market, that's his schick. His work is the vehicle for doing that. The actual art is empty of meaning, he mockingly pretentious titling another clue to his cynicism. His genius is in his process, not in his work.
Graham Goldman and Eric Stewart said it much better than I ever could.
If someone’s prepared to call something ‘Art’, then who’s to say it’s not? So I don’t resent or even care if he makes money from his ‘efforts’. Life, to quote Eric, but this time with Lol Creme (those 10 CC boys were clever dickies, were they not?), is a minestrone, and ever more so today, when clarity no longer exists, and nor is it even desirable, given how the absolute certainties of the past magnolia-ed everything.
I presume you’ve met him, Rosie? What’s he like? Other than fairly wealthy…ha-ha!
The cover of your book is Martin Creed's lights going on and off that won the Turner Prize. That's my guess.
Well done! Send me your address to rosiehmillard@gmail.com
What a wonderful read, cheering the end of a long cold work Friday, thank you
Pleasure!

I like your mum's style, Rosie! How interesting to know what DH has been up to.
‘Art for art’s sake,
Money for God’s sake…
When you get down, down to the root
Don't give a damn don't give a hoot
Still gotta keep makin the loot
Chauffeur driven…’

I have only met him once, surrounded by press pack. Quite scary but I'm sure he's OK.
Yes, he has an air of, let’s just say, perhaps not so friendly, but…ha-ha!
Probably all part of the mystique construct, no doubt.
Oh, well, good luck to him.
Thanks, Rosie!
There's a fun novel about the YBAs taking over Hoxton called ART by Peter Carty. Recommended especially if you've ever enjoyed a DH artwork!
Thanks! I'll read it!
