I love reading books that contrast with their surroundings. I fully approve of your sister reading Middlemarch up a mountain. I wrote a poem about reading Jill in Dubrovnik, called (helpfully) Philip Larkin in Croatia. The Oxford autumn mists of the 1940s contrasted wonderfully with the crowded European holiday world.
